Where I live the speed limit on interstate highways is 70 mph/115 kph.... Well just try to drive that speed and you get passed on the shoulder if no other lanes are open...

Even the big semi trucks drive 80+ mph. Sometimes I am amazed at how fast some of those big truck can go.

Now and then you will see a vehicle pulled over by the highway patrol, and I often wonder what they got pulled over for. I doubt it was for speeding. More than likely it would be for not driving fast enough....

 

I drive a truck that is 23 feet long , has MRAP axels, 46 inch tall tires, and requires 2 parking spaces at the grocery store. Speed limit signs are not a part of my driving worries, running over some asshole in a Civic is. Luckily in Texas most people see speed limits as a suggestion to the yankee tourists and tend to get the hell out of the way when I drive, local cops know that the truck is too heavy to go too fast so I can do 70 in a 50 without getting stopped. If you do see my turn signal on to change lanes get out of the way because I will not see you until your car is flattened in my rear view. Semi drivers look shocked that my seat height is the same as theirs, I love my wife but the tires alone are almost as tall as she is. If a driver cannot drive the speed limit they need to get the fuck off of the road.

Shooter used to drive a dammed decommissioned school bus.
A big one.
We used it to haul our river customers around in it.
We had a keg installed in the damn thing.
You know, for passengers.
The damn thing had a max speed of 5 MPH going up the approaches to Eisenhower tunnel in Colorado (really, Shooter is not making this up), so our passengers did a pretty good job of working over the keg while we chugged(pun intended) our way over the pass.
We never got stopped.
And hitch hikers could see us coming a mile away, get their shit packed, and step onto the bus as we went by. Literally, just step on.
And have a beer.

But Shooter got distracted.
The point he wanted to make was, the truckers hated our bus. They'd come roaring up behind us and we had no place to get out of their way, and if cars were in the left lane near us it effectively blocked the entire road.
Truckers hate to have to slow down going up a hill.
Nothing to do about it.
Except some of the prettier passengers (customers and guides) would give the truckers a flash for their troubles.
It tended to slow them down as they went by.
Which was a good thing, cause if you've ever driven the Eisenhower tunnels you know coming down the west side can be terrifying in a semi. You just must be going slower than you think you have to if you want any hope of getting to the bottom, tire side down.

 

Every time someone drives up my ass, I purposely drive just under the speed limit to piss them off or if there is another car in the lane next to me, I would drive slow and then when the car behind my ass changes lanes, i'd speed up a little but not pass the car next to me

So speed limits aren't for everyone
Just ask anyone
I prefer to stay within the posted speed limit
and get out of the way
If I speed, I do it with grace, agility and precision
But I've learned to laugh at all the frantic speeders
That think they have it "under control"

My drive from Florida to Tennessee, then back, every eight weeks, is about 1,600 miles on interstate and two lane roads.
So I’m pretty familiar with the main traffic corridors involved in traversing the routes through Florida, Georgia (sometimes Alabama) and Tennessee. All have a pretty equal share idiotic and maniacal drivers.
Personally I try to be the slowest of the fast drivers on the interstates, and the most patient on the two lane roads. Let some other guy be the cop bait.

 

A postscript to my post above.
The one place I hated to drive through the most was Atlanta, but they are now third, behind Chattanooga and Nashville.
Tomorrow, we will start our annual trek from Nashville to Rochester, NY. This will involve driving I-71 through the entire state of Ohio, the home of the most left lane creepers in the world. I’m dreading it already.

 

Most days I don't worry about the speed limit, I'm usually under the posted speed limit due to my size and weight. Most times I have escorts and on some occasions I'll also have police escorts. My size also dictates if we will shut down highways and roadways for me to travel. My problem is people who are in a hurry to get in front of me to try and slow me down more. At 50 mph hours, if I had to stop in a hurry because of idiots, I will roll through them like a freight train and could loose my brakes before completely stopping.
